The Clock Shop of Rapid City and Deadwood History, Inc. made Johnny’s dream came true when the placer gold found near the site of the Icebox Nugget, one of the Black Hills largest gold nuggets in existence today, was poured into a mold of Potato Creek Johnny’s nugget in 2012 to make the Potato Creek Johnny 2 (PCJ2). Sponsored by The Clock Shop, the PCJ2 is a unique piece of history expressly made to be auctioned as a benefit for Deadwood History, Inc. and the Wounded Warrior Project.
The initial auction date was set for 2012, but as interest in this unique project caught on, it became clear to Deadwood History and The Clock Shop officials these golden “legs” are leaping onto a national stage. For the next year, the Potato Creek Johnny and Icebox Nuggets, with their progeny the PCJ2, will make appearances across the nation garnering interest in the auction of the PCJ2 on September 28, 2013.
Plans are underway to host a special benefit concert and to auction many celebrity items. A baseball signed by Cal Ripken, Jr. and football signed by Super Bowl MVP Thurman Thomas were recently donated. You can follow the nuggets online at PCJ2.com.
